Maintaining EDI

There is maintenance required with an EDI system, as with any data storing and communication system. A person trained in EDI will need to spot check transmissions, address drops in communications, and fix any errors that might occur during translation. That person would also be required to know the specifics of the mapping tool that the translator uses to be able to create and maintain maps and upgrade the standards, uderstand communication methods, and have a working knowledge of the VAN business. Larger firms sometimes have EDI staff in house, but, for many, edi outsourcing is the most affordable and convenient option.
